K ) We’re in the ninth grade in Junior high school.
We’re talking about the communication of gorillas and humpback whales in the book TAGAKI 50.

H) Do you know humpback whales sing?
Their songs sound like squeaks or whistles.
It’s well known that their songs are used to express love or to communicate with each other.
It’s surprising that their songs can continue from several minutes to half an hour.
Let’s listen to their sounds.

( the sounds from i-phone)

I wonder why their songs can be heard thousands of kilometers away.
K)  Gorillas are very smart and good at communication.
I’ve learned that gorillas carefully look at the faces of other gorillas for            communication.
It’s surprising that the famous gorilla named Koko learned a large number of hand signs.
I’ve heard that gorillas are peace lovers.
I wonder if it’s true that they don’t fight with other species, for example,                   chimpanzees.

H)  Wow, both whales and gorillas are good communicators.                                         But there’re some differences.
k)  Gorillas communicate face to face.
Humpback whales communicate in a long distance.
H)  Mika, Which animal do you want to be, a gorilla or a humpback whale?
M)  I want to be a gorilla. I’d like to hear the sweet words from my boy friend face         to face.
K)  How about you, Satomi?
S)  Of course I want to be a whale.
I’d like to scream “I love you.” to my boy friends from Hawaii to Japan for 30 minutes.
