Powerful Teens      by Shiori Takada  Oct. 2014
Hello. My name is Shiori Takada. I’m 14 years old.
Today I’m going to talk about the teenage girls who gave us their strong messages.

One day I saw on the news that one Vietnamese girl sang a song at the Unicef conference in Vietnam on May 30th.
Her name is Nguyen Phuong Anh.
She is a sixteen year old high school girl.
She sang a song called “Let’s dance”.
Her beautiful voice moved all audience.
I also love this song.

Why is she sitting on a wheel chair?
Her bones are very weak and they were broken more than 30 times.
She felt ashamed that she couldn’t do the things other people did.
Her parents have accompanied Anh  everywhere.
One day she quit counting how many times she has broken a bone.
She’s started to listen to music and to sing many songs.
She said those songs cheered her up and made her happy.
Once she had a chance to sing on TV.
The judges said she was a wonderful singer and she was born to give us the happiest time.

I’ll introduce another girl.
Do you know this girl?
Her name is Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan.  She’s 16 years old too.
She was shot by a terrorist last October and finally recovered.
She addressed the United Nations and called for education for all children.
Let’s listen to a part of her speech. (So let us wage a glorious struggle
She also said one child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world.
Education is the only solution.  Education first.

In Japan we don’t realize that millions of children have no school .
“Every child has the right to have a bright peaceful future” she said.
I agree with her

These two girls opened my eyes to the world and helped me think about how to live my life.
I’ve thought to work overseas in the future. What field?  I’m not sure.
But they inspired me a lot.
Thank you for listening.
