Japan’s Tragedy

Let me start by saying that my heart goes out to everyone who has friends, family, and loved ones in the areas of Japan affected by the recent disasters. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Emi and I, probably like most of Japan, have been glued to our TV as we watch the tragedy unfold in northern Japan. It’s hard to believe that life here in Nagasaki is virtually unchanged, while so much is happening up north. I have noticed that here in Omura that batteries, flashlights and other emergency goods are selling out. Perhaps these things are being sent to the disaster area. I know that Emi and I sent ramen, batteries, and food to our daughters in Tokyo. They have told us that those things are completely sold out. We shipped their boxes by Black Cat delivery service and were told delivery would take about a week. Usually, it’s just two days.

A disaster on this scale is so overwhelming, it’s hard to take it all in. I do know, however, that the Japanese people are strong, spirited and resilient. As hard as it is to believe now, those areas destroyed in this tragedy will be renewed, rebuilt and strong again. Japan will recover!

Please join Emi and I as we continue to pray for those who have lost so much.
