TAGAKI50 8⃣ Gorillas

8 Gorillas

Gorillas are very smart and good at communications.

I’ve learned that gorillas carefully look at the faces of other gorillas for communications.

☆There are only 20 gorillas in 6 zoos which have gorillas in Japan.

Chiba, Ueno Tokyo, Higashiyama Nogoya, Monkey Park in Inuyama, Hamamatsu and Kyoto Zoo.

Why are there so few gorillas in Japan?

Because now we are not allowed to bring wild gorillas from Africa, it has banned under the Washington Convention.

Also breeding is very difficult. There were 50 gorillas at zoos in Japan in 1990, but now we have only 20.

They are very sensitive and clever, easy to get infectious diseases. Some gorillas at the San Diego Zoo have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Shabani is the most famous gorilla in Japan.

He was born in Holland and came to Nagoya Higashiyama Zoo in 2007.

He has become very popular as a Ikemen gorilla.

We can buy his DVDs and photo books or calendars.

I wish my husband was as strong as a gorilla, but also as gentle.

And as cool as Shabani!

By the way, have you read the story of Green Knowe : Stranger at Green Knowe?
