Course Overview: Teaching TAGAKI Advanced with Plan–Teach–Assess
This 9-session course is designed to help teachers get the most out of the TAGAKI Advanced
series and boost classroom impact. Across three levels from CEFR A2–B2, the books guide
learners from giving reasons to writing expository texts and finally producing hybrid, academic-
style writing on the SDGs.
The course is structured around a simple Plan–Teach–Assess cycle that highlights what matters
most at each stage of writing development: understanding text structures, teaching approaches
that build skills progressively, and meaningful assessment that promotes learner growth.
Participants will see how pedagogy shifts as learners move from BICS to CALP, from speaking-
supported writing to reading-supported writing, and from model-based to process-based
approaches. At each stage, we will also explore how AI can support teachers with brainstorming,
communication practice, resource creation, and assessment, giving practical tools that save time
and enrich learning.
コース概要：計画・指導・評価によるTAGAKI Advancedの指導
この9回コースは、教師がTAGAKI Advancedシリーズを最大限に活用し、授業での効果を高めることを目的としています。CEFR A2からB2までの3つのレベルを網羅し、学習者は理由の提示から説明文の作成、そして最終的にはSDGsに関するハイブリッドなアカデミックスタイルのライティングの作成へと導かれます。
このコースは、シンプルな「計画（Plan）- 指導（Teach）- 評価（Assess）」サイクルに基づいて構成されており、ライティング能力開発の各段階で最も重要な要素、すなわちテキスト構造の理解、スキルを段階的に構築する指導方法、そして学習者の成長を促す有意義な評価に焦点を当てています。
参加者は、学習者がBICSからCALPへ、スピーキング支援型ライティングからリーディング支援型ライティングへ、そしてモデルベースのアプローチからプロセスベースのアプローチへと移行するにつれて、教育法がどのように変化するかを理解します。また、各段階で、AIがブレインストーミング、コミュニケーション練習、リソース作成、評価において教師をどのように支援できるかについても探求し、時間を節約し学習を豊かにする実用的なツールを提供します。

Session A2.1 (Advanced 2 – Around the World) Plan
This session introduces TAGAKI Advanced 2: Around the World (CEFR B1), where learners write short expository texts presenting countries with three good points. We will examine how writing expectations shift at this level: from relying on speaking to beginning to draw on reading and research to support writing. Teachers will explore planning lessons that encourage curiosity, cross-cultural awareness, and the use of factual evidence. AI’s role in planning will be demonstrated through creating sample resources about countries to stimulate students’ background knowledge and vocabulary, making writing tasks more engaging and accessible for learners.

このセッションでは、TAGAKI Advanced 2: Around the World (CEFR B1) を紹介します。このコースでは、学習者は各国の3つの長所を紹介する短い説明文を書きます。このレベルでは、スピーキングに頼るだけでなく、リーディングやリサーチを活用してライティングをサポートするようになるなど、ライティングの期待値がどのように変化するかを検証します。教師は、好奇心、異文化理解、そして事実に基づくエビデンスの活用を促す授業計画を検討します。AIが授業計画において果たす役割を具体的に示し、各国に関するサンプル教材を作成することで、生徒の背景知識と語彙力を刺激し、ライティング課題をより魅力的で学習しやすいものにします。
Session A2.2 (Advanced 2 – Around the World) Teach
In this session, we focus on effective teaching strategies for TAGAKI Advanced 2. We will look at the suggested classroom approach in the book and model ways of scaffolding expository writing. Attention will be given to guiding learners to research, organise, and present information clearly, moving beyond opinion into factual exposition. Teachers will gain practical techniques for balancing structure and creativity while keeping lessons student-centred. We will also demonstrate how AI can support research by providing accessible, level-appropriate information for students, ensuring that writing tasks are grounded in content knowledge as well as language development.

本セッションでは、TAGAKI Advanced 2の教材に効果的な指導方法について解説します。教材に記載されている授業展開の提案内容を参考に、説明文作成における指導方法の具体例をご紹介します。学習者が意見を述べるだけでなく、事実に基づいた情報を的確に調査・整理・表現できるよう、指導方法を工夫していくことを重視します。教師が、生徒中心の授業を維持しながら、内容の構成と表現の自由をバランスよく取り入れるための実践的なテクニックを習得できるよう、様々な方法を提案します。また、AIを活用して、生徒のレベルに合った適切な情報を容易に入手できるようにすることで、生徒が内容理解を深めながら言語能力も向上させられるような、効果的な学習支援方法についてもご紹介します。
Session A2.3 (Advanced 2 – Around the World) Assess
This session examines formative and summative assessment for TAGAKI Advanced 2. At CEFR B1, assessment focuses on clarity, organisation, and the use of factual support. We will look at the Six+1 Traits of Writing Approach and rubrics that capture these elements, sharing ways to make them usable for both teachers and students. Teachers will also explore techniques for using peer assessment in class, using supportive feedback language that helps learners refine their work. AI tools will be introduced as a way to generate sample answers and rubrics, and to model feedback that learners can then apply when giving constructive comments to their classmates.

このセッションでは、TAGAKI Advanced 2における形成評価と総括評価について考察します。CEFR B1レベルでは、評価の焦点は文章の明瞭さ、構成力、そして事実に基づいた根拠の提示能力に置かれています。本セッションでは、こうした要素を評価するための「6+1要素によるライティング評価法」と評価基準表について解説し、教師と生徒双方にとって使いやすい方法を共有します。また、生徒同士で互いに評価し合うピアレビューの活用方法や、生徒の作品改善に役立つ有益なフィードバックの与え方についても検討します。さらに、AIツールを活用して模範解答や評価基準表を自動生成する方法や、生徒がクラスメートに建設的なコメントを伝える際に役立つフィードバックの例を提示する方法についても紹介します。

Damien Pratt氏
講師プロフィール：
I first came to Japan in 1992 on the JET programme anticipating staying for three years. Fourteen years, a wife and two children later, I returned to the UK, where I got qualified as a primary teacher and we added another child to the family.
In 2017, after 10 years of working in a very large primary school in London, we returned to Japan. Since then, I’ve been working in Tokyo as the coordinator for Tamagawa Academy’s bilingual elementary school programme.
I have worked with or for MPI since 1997 and have been involved in the creation of Dansinglish, Globe Walker and TAGAKI Advanced 3 about the SDGs.
In the 30+ years I’ve been involved in education, I’ve been a teacher, teacher trainer, deputy head, curriculum designer, editor, writer and performer.
My professional interests include communicative language teaching, the teaching of reading and writing, Content and Language Integrated Learning and teacher professional development.
